Tuna is a food source that is high in protein and rich in omega-3 fatty acids. It also has a significant content of B, D and E vitamins, as well as minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, iodine and selenium. Canned tuna is mostly made from tropical tuna. Grupo Calvo brands use three species: skipjack, yellowfin and bigeye tuna.
SKIPJACK TUNA
Katsuwonus pelamis. Also known as the skipjack tuna because of the stripes on its belly, its flesh is slightly darker in color than that of the other two species of tropical tuna and it has a more intense flavor. The skipjack tuna has a length of under a meter and weighs between 2 and 4 kilos. They swim both on the surface and at depths of 500 meters.

Mussels are a low-fat, high-protein food source with high nutritional value. They are rich in omega 3 and a natural source of vitamins (B12, B2-riboflavin and B9-folacin) and mineral salts (iron, phosphorus, selenium, iodine, potassium and zinc).
Mytilus galloprovincialis. The Galician Mussel is a mollusk that is obtained using the traditional floating raft system inside the Galician Estuaries, considered by the FAO to be one of the most important phytoplankton deposits on the planet.

Along with anchovies, sardines constitute the healthy oily fish par excellence. They are a source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, phosphorus, selenium, vitamin B12, niacin, B6 and riboflavin. They also contain significant amounts of vitamin D. A serving of sardines meets 100% of the recommended nutritional targets for daily intake of omega-3 and 93% of the recommended daily amount of phosphorus.
There is a great diversity of sardine species, with the best known being Sardina pilchardus. It belongs to the Clupeidae family and is one of the most abundant groups of pelagic fish. They gather in large schools and can be found virtually all over the world. The name comes from the island of Sardinia, in Italy.

Calamari, or squid, are another important source of proteins of high biological value and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. They provide minerals (selenium, phosphorus and iodine) and vitamins (vitamin B12, vitamin E and niacin). One serving of calamari provides nearly 100% of the recommended amount of vitamin B12, according to the Spanish Foundation for Nutrition.
The giant squid is a large cephalopod mollusk (it can reach 2 meters in length and weigh 45 kilos) and lives at the bottom of all the world’s oceans.
